Men's Ties

The right tie width is determined by the width of the blazer lapel, ensuring a balanced and elegant proportion throughout the outfit. For narrow lapels, choose slim ties with a width of approximately 6–7 cm, while classic or wider lapels pair best with ties measuring 8–9 cm in width. The key rule is that the tie should “follow” the lapel, creating a harmonious and well-balanced look, ideal for both formal and smart casual occasions.

A blue suit is a timeless foundation that can be easily combined with a variety of tie colors. For a classic and professional look, opt for shades such as navy, burgundy, or dark green. For a more contemporary style, earthy tones, grey, or pastel shades add character without being overpowering. For more formal occasions, a silk tie with a subtle pattern is the perfect finishing touch, enhancing the elegance of a blue suit.

The simplest and most timeless way to tie a tie is the “Four-in-Hand” knot, which is suitable for any occasion. Start by placing the tie around your neck, with the wide end hanging lower than the narrow end. Then cross the wide end over the narrow end, wrap it around, and bring it upward through the neck loop. Finally, pass it through the front loop you have created and carefully tighten the knot so that it sits neatly in the center of the collar. Ideally, the tip of the tie should reach the belt line for a polished and elegant look.

The double knot (Windsor knot) ties the necktie in a symmetrical and secure way, making it ideal for formal occasions. Start with the wide end positioned lower than the narrow end. Pass the wide end over and around the narrow end twice to create the base of the knot. Then bring the wide end through the neck opening and gently pull it down to tighten the knot. Adjust the knot so that it is centered and symmetrical beneath the collar for a polished and elegant appearance.

The correct tie length is essential for achieving an elegant and balanced appearance. The tip of the tie should reach the level of the belt or slightly cover the belt buckle, without extending beyond it. A tie that is too short or too long can affect the overall proportions of the outfit, while the right length creates a polished and professional look, ideal for both formal and smart casual occasions.

Combining a tie with a striped or patterned shirt requires balance to ensure the overall look remains elegant and harmonious. When the shirt features a bold pattern, opt for a solid-colored tie in a shade that subtly complements the shirt. On the other hand, with a shirt featuring more subtle stripes or small patterns, you can choose a tie with a discreet pattern, as long as the designs vary in scale to avoid creating excessive contrast. For a more refined appearance, combine different textures while maintaining a balanced approach between colors and patterns. At Oxford Company, the right shirt and tie combinations complete a timelessly elegant men's look.

For a formal look, the most timeless and elegant choice is a 100% silk tie. The smooth silk texture offers exceptional quality, a subtle sheen, and an impeccable knot, making it ideal for business attire, weddings, and formal occasions. Solid-colored silk ties are a safe and sophisticated choice for classic suits, while subtle patterns add character without compromising elegance.
